A consignment of assorted foods has finally reached the Muom Military Training Center in Unity State’s Leer County, bringing relief and joy to South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) soldiers there.
The consignment includes 800 sacks of maize flour along with a variety of other essential food items such as beans, lentils, cooking oil, rice, and sugar.
Previously, soldiers at the training center had suspended activities due to food and medicine shortages. However, with the recent food delivery, many soldiers are returning to the center to resume their military training.
Brig. Gen. Peter Par Tai, the head of the training center, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the initial shipment of food for the training center arrived at a port just two hours away from the training center four days ago.
“Our soldiers are now delighted because their food has arrived. I reside within this training camp and extend my gratitude to our headquarters in Juba for heeding our requests and ensuring that they dispatched food for the soldiers,” Peter said. “The food delivered is intended for the initial group of soldiers already present at the training center and not for those expected to arrive soon.”
“Additionally, some of the provisions will be allocated to injured soldiers residing within Muom Military Training Center,” Peter added.
Peter highlighted that soldiers throughout Unity State are still contending with a shortage of medicines, emphasizing, “We are still confronting the issue of insufficient medical supplies. While food has been delivered, there is a lack of medicine for the soldiers who are unwell or injured at the training center.”
