The commissioner of Melut county of South Sudan’s Upper Nile state said dozens of homes have been burned in Thag village on the Eastern bank of the Nile due to shelling by forces of General Johnson Olony on Saturday.
Melut County Commissioner Chol Ayie told Radio Tamazuj the shelling burned 64 houses and dozens of families fled to the neighboring villages.
He accused Olony’s troops of not adhering to the peace agreement signed in August last year. He further alleged that Olony’s men have attacked cattle herders coming from Sudan as well.
He urged the opposition to abide by the South Sudan peace agreement.
