Renk County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State received a shipment of medical supplies from the National Ministry of Health earlier this week, according to Director of Health Services Chol Ayak.
Ayak told Radio Tamazuj Thursday medicines are available, but said lack of medical staff is the main problem hindering health work.
He said there is a severe shortage of doctors and medical assistants.
“The only doctor who used to work in the facility has left due to insecurity,” he said. Ayak added that health conditions of Renk citizens are deteriorating due to improper treatment in the area.
The county official noted that all counties of Upper Nile are facing the same problem since fighting erupted in December 2013.
In September last year, Chol Ayak told Radio Tamazuj that they received medical aid supplies estimated at 20 tonnes donated by Renk County Commissioner Lual Deng Chol.
