Medical doctor killed, son injured in Torit road ambush

Police officials in Torit say a medical doctor working at Torit State Hospital was killed and his son injured in a road ambush on Sunday along Torit-Juba road.

Torit state police spokesman Major Mathew Ochan told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the late doctor Augustine Anthony and his son James Taban were attacked by a group of armed men.

“We got the information this morning about the death of Augustine Anthony an employee at Torit State Hospital. They were coming from Lowoi to Torit and when they reached Kor-Lakbata because they were riding motorbike, the criminals attacked them on the road, shot the late Augustino Anthony and injured the boy who was riding the bike James Taban,”he said.

Ochan said investigations into the attack have begun and the perpetrators will be punished, adding that the injured boy is undergoing treatment at Torit Hospital.

He revealed that the security situation had improved since a similar attack by armed men left a woman dead last month.
