The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) has called on more women to join the journalism profession.
AMDISS chairperson Alfred Taban encouraged women interested in journalism to join the media profession so that they can reflect the views of other women. He spoke Tuesday at the start of a three-day workshop on South Sudan’s media laws at Palm Tree Hotel in Rumbek, Lakes state.
Taban, who is also editor of the Juba Monitor newspaper, said he was disappointed at the low number of women reporters present in Rumbek. The veteran scribe said it is not a good sign to have only five women journalists compared to twenty men at the meeting.
Still, Taban said he appreciated that many participants at the Rumbek workshop traveled a far distance from Cueibet County to attend. He said AMDISS plans to visit all ten states of South Sudan to meet and train as many journalists as possible and share experiences.
