The South Sudan government on Friday warned advertisement and printing companies across the country against printing the wrong version of the national flag.

In a press conference in Juba, the Media Authority said the printing of the national flag can only be done in a dignified manner in its original designs, accurate shapes and colours.

The media regulator pointed out that it has observed that the printing and circulation of the different versions of the national flag in the country and at some diplomatic missions abroad.

“Media houses, advertisement and printing companies are hereby cautioned to immediately cease any printing of wrong versions of the national flag that does not conform with the right version of the South Sudan national flag,” said Elijah Alier, the Managing Director of the Media Authority.

He added, “Printing, publication and circulation of the wrong version of the South Sudan national flag is prohibited. Failure to comply to print the right version of the national flag will incur penalties to printing and advertisement companies.”

Alier urged all levels of government to remove all the wrong and substandard versions of the South Sudan flag and replace them with the right official version.

Alier also called on the Ministry of Presidential Affairs to provide enough national flags for all the states and administrative areas in accordance with the 5th Governors’ Forum resolutions of November 22-29, 2021.

The blue colour of the triangular shape where the yellow star is embedded has been the subject of debate.

A deep blue colour has occasionally been wrongly printed instead of the right light blue colour.
