Medair says it has provided support to 2,300 people in the capital of Juba with bed mats, mosquito nets, and blankets at the Tongping Protection of Civilians site, and 8,967 people who took shelter in Don Bosco and at the St. Theresa’s church.

“Medair continues to call on all parties to the conflict to uphold the cease-fire to facilitate humanitarian action. We hope and pray that lasting peace will come to South Sudan along with renewed hope for the future” the organization said in a statement.

The organization also says that it has bolstered efforts to fight the recent cholera outbreak in Juba, where at least six people have died and more than 130 cases have been identified. The organization says it has trained around 90 staff in proper hygiene, and says it is implementing water and sanitation services that supply approximately 5,000 people in Juba.

It also says that it is helping to combat an increase in sexual violence in the capital.

“Following the fall-out of violence in Juba, we are also equipping local clinic staff in supporting women who have experienced sexual gender-based violence, as well as facilitating access to emergency supply of essential drugs for a key local health facility”
