Medair opens 24-hour clinic for safe deliveries in Yusuf Batil camp

The NGO Medair has opened a 24-hour reproductive health clinic in Yusuf Batil Camp in Maban, offering safe delivery services to Sudanese refugees.

The new clinic was celebrated at an event last week organised by Medair midwives and attended by community leaders, traditional birth attendants, and women living in the camp.

Medair Health and Nutrition Project Manager Jillian Lynaugh says the new clinic gives women access to safe delivery service within the camp for the first time.

“Previously, refugee women sometimes avoided going to the hospital for delivery. Some had to travel across the entire camp, facing a short but sometimes dangerous journey,” she said. “By establishing the facility within the camp, Medair aims to enable more women to come to search skilled assistance and deliver their babies safely.”

Medair has also opened a 24-hour delivery clinic in Abayok, a displacement settlement in Renk County.

In South Sudan, approximately one out of 50 women dies in child birth.
