Nearly 2,500 children have been vaccinated against measles in an ongoing health campaign in Abyei, the disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan.
Vaccinators are still working to reach villages across Abyei, according to a report Tuesday by Abyei Today.
In addition, these clinics are still open for vaccinations for any child aged between six months and five years: Abyei PHCC; Ganga PHCU; Mijak PHCU; Rumamer PHCC; Awal PHCU; Wunchuie PHCU; Mading Jok Thiang PHCU; Juoljok PHCC.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that is usually characterized by fever, rashes and cough. It can be prevented by vaccination but once contracted there is no specific treatment to cure it.
Separately, Abyei Today reports that the Food and Agriculture Organization carried out animal vaccinations in Mijak Kol, Kol Luoth, Maker Awad Wad and Juoljok areas since 20 February.
