Chief mediator of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) for Sudan Thabo Mbeki arrived in Khartoum Wednesday to meet with government officials over the National Dialogue and resumption of stalled peace talks on the Two Areas.

An official source told Sudan Tribune website that former South African President Mbeki is striving to push the Sudanese National Dialogue ahead. He added that the visit also aimed at informing the Khartoum government about the resumption of peace talks with the SPLA-North in Addis Ababa.

National Congress Party head of political affairs Mustafa Osman Ismail said he will meet Mbeki to discuss how peace and dialogue can be realized in Sudan.

Ismail hoped that the next round of talks on the South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions will bring a final peace agreement.
