Mayom County celebrates Eid al-Fitr with calls for co-existence

A number of Muslims gathered in Mayom town in Unity State to celebrate the Eid Al Fitr holiday. The group included Muslims from both South Sudan and Sudan and representatives of the county government.

The ceremony was attended by head chief Konkon and Mayom Commissioner John Bol, while the Sudanese Muslim community was represented by Chief al-Khier.

The commissioner called on the Muslims in the county to have the spirit of co-existence with other religions in the state and urged them to work together for the sake of peace, unity and prosperity of the all the people.

He urged future cooperation between the two Sudans in order to benefit the citizens who are in the border areas of the two states.

“We were very pleased with the county for their support to us during the Eid,” said one Musa Adam. He said that such acts by the county government will ease tensions among the tribes of the state.

He further urged his Muslim brothers to have a spirit of religious tolerance and promote unity of the people.
