Doctors and medical support staffs in Kadugli Hospital in South Kordofan Wednesday submitted mass resignations in protest against non-payment of arrears.
A source told Radio Tamazuj that ten general practitioners and trainees handed over their resignations to the minister of health after the government apparently failed to pay their dues.
Dozens of patients gathered yesterday in the hospital’s courtyard in order to meet the doctors, but they did not find a single doctor on duty.
Some patients resorted to a health insurance center for treatment, but the only doctor who was in the center sneaked out after seeing a large number of patients coming for medical attention, according to the same source.
A large number of patients have been admitted at the Kadugli Hospital without any medical care rendered to them following the protests over the last two days.
The source also warned of a health crisis in case the medical doctors’ demands are not fulfilled by the relevant authorities.
Last week, about five cases of hemorrhagic fever were reported in Kadulgli Hospital.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Lagawa locality in West Kordofan medical doctors have been on strike for weeks over low wages, worsening health conditions of local residents.
