Mass displacement in South Kordofan, rebels claim shoot down chopper

Abasyia area of Sudan's South Kordofan state have received thousands of displaced people from Tafel, Um Jaras, Soug Jebel, and Mourep areas due to bombardment by Sudan Air Force.

Local sources told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that around 20,000 people arrived in Abasyia area amid dire humanitarian conditions and lack of assistance by humanitarian agencies according to the commission of humanitarian affairs.

Separately, the Sudan’s People Liberation Army-North rebels announced they shot down a helicopter of the Sudan Air Force in an area west of Um Sirdiba in South Kordofan yesterday.

SPLA-N spokesman Arno Ngutulu Lodi said in a press statement thier forces destroyed three tanks too in a four hour battle.

He said there were deaths and injuries among the Sudan Armed Force, adding that four soldiers from their side were killed and 15 were injured.

Radio Tamazuj was unable to contact the Sudan Army spokesperson for a comment.
