‘Martyrs’ Day’: Unity State to dedicate projects, schools for families

Authorities in Unity State decided to dedicate development projects and schools to families of the ‘martyrs’ of South Sudan’s wars. The country celebrates martyrs’ day every July 30, the anniversary of the day that John Garang de Mabior died in a helicopter crash in 2005.

The state’s spokesman and Information Minister, William Gatjang, in an interview with Radio Tamazuj said that Martyrs’ Day is a great day for all the people of Southern Sudan and explained that the blood of the martyrs of the Republic of South Sudan was a price to pay to liberate the people.

Gatjang said that the Government of the Republic attaches special significance to the families of the martyrs revealing that the country’s leadership decided to establish development projects in support of these families as well as schools for their children.

In Unity State, a resolution to this effect was issued by Governor Taban Deng, he said.
