Authorities in Twic County in northern Warrap say that key markets such as Turalei are lacking commodities. This follows a report of similar shortages in neighboring Agok in the Abyei Area.
Twic County Commissioner Biar Biar said that some commodities have run out at the market since almost two week ago due to poor road conditions hindering the flow of trade.
“We have spent almost two weeks now without some commodities in the market of Turalei,” Biar told Radio Tamazuj.
The commissioner said the items which are not available in the market are sugar, floor, fuel, salt and drinks.
He said normally their goods came from Uganda via Rumbek town in Lake and via Meiram in Sudan through Majok Nyin Thiou in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
Biar also stressed that high rate exchange of dollars against South Sudanese pounds is another major reason contributing to lack of commodities in Turalei.
