The traffic Police in Maridri County in Western Equatoria State is holding a 16-year-old boy for knocking and killing a 30-year-old woman on 4 January after he drove his uncle’s vehicle without permission.

The inspector of traffic police of Maridi County, Lieutenant Emmanuel Juma, told Radio Tamazuji Monday that they are holding the minor, Ayiko Amos, for breaking Article 66 of the Traffic Law of South Sudan for illegal taking his uncle’s car without the latter’s knowledge.

“On 4 January 2022 at 10 am a young boy called Ayiko Amos who is 16 years old who took his uncle’s car without his permission and ended up in an accident where he knocked a woman who died two hours later in the hospital,” Lt. Juma said. “The law says anyone who takes a vehicle without the owner’s permission will be punished according to article 66.”

He added: “The accused is still in police custody and we will not release him until the investigation process is done and the public prosecutor presents him in court for trial.”

The traffic police boss appealed to parents not to give vehicles to minors because it is against the law.
