Maridi traders warned against price hikes

Authorities in Maridi County of Western Equatoria State have warned traders against taking advantage of the novel coronavirus outbreak to increase prices of products.

Authorities in Maridi County of Western Equatoria State have warned traders against taking advantage of the novel coronavirus outbreak to increase prices of products.

South Sudan’s government on Monday closed all airports and land crossings over fears about the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the secretary general of the defunct Maridi State, Rembe Benjamin Wani said the move by traders to increase the prices follows the president’s recent directive on border closure.

“I understand the president issued an order, which traders have taken advantage of. This is unlawful. The border closure did not affect cargo movement, thus no reason to increase the prices,” he said.

Wani urged local traders to be patriotic and desist from exploiting citizens.

South Sudan imports almost everything from neighboring countries.
