The legislative assembly in South Sudan’s Maridi State reopened for its second session on April 16.

The legislative assembly in South Sudan’s Maridi State reopened for its second session on April 16.

Speaking during the assembly’s reopening, the speaker, Mary Sungu Yoere lauded the state government for maintaining peace and stability during the difficult moments of insecurity in the country.

“I thank and appreciate the government of Maridi State under the leadership of Africano Mande for the good security in the state, which enabled our members to move to their constituencies and talk to their people to cultivate to improve on food security in the state,” she said.

The speaker, however, urged the national government to ensure General Thomas Cirillo, the National Salvation Front (NAS) leader, is included in the ongoing peace process.

“On behalf of the citizens of Maridi State and on my own behalf, I want to congratulate the President of South Sudan for signing a permanent peace deal with the warring parties, but the absence of Thomas Cirillo is still a threat to people of South Sudan,” said Sungu.

Maridi State legislative assembly was established on October 19, 2015.
