Head teachers in South Sudan’s Maridi County have raised concerns over a lack of teachers in the county making teaching difficult.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Sylvester Kyubek, a head teacher of one of the government secondary schools in Maridi said that they hire part-time teachers to teach subjects that have no teachers, saying the shortage was affecting education standards in the area.
Kyubek said that although the part-time teachers provide a solution, it is only temporary and he called on the government to help in finding a long-term solution to the problem.
However, the state minister of education, gender, child and social welfare Jane Pai encouraged students to stay in school to revise and engage in group discussions rather than abandoning schools.
