Dozens of internally displaced persons who fled insecurity threats in Maridi after attacks by pastoralists believed to be from Rumbek are in dire need of food and medical assistance.

In interviews conducted by Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several families complained that they were suffering after their homes had been burned to ashes and properties looted.

The displaced persons further said they were sharing food with their neighbours, amid absence of humanitarian organizations operating in the area. They appealed to aid organizations to assist them as soon as possible.

Last week, herders believed to be from Rumek attacked Maridi villagers saying their cows were raided by unknown gunmen in the area.

Government officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
