South Sudan’s National Ministry of Health has supplied drugs to Maridi Civil Hospital in Maridi County of Western Equatoria State, after doctors complained about drug shortages.

Last week, doctors at the Maridi hospital reported severe shortages of medicines amid rising cases of malaria.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the medical director of the hospital, Dr. Mazzin Adil Severino said the drugs were supplied with support from the Health Pooled Fund.

“We received supplies of drugs from the National Health ministry in Juba on June 11, 2020. We are still waiting for reports from the pharmacy about the received drugs and hopefully, they will be distributed to the different departments soon,” he said.

The medical director pointed out that the drugs would not be distributed to the outside health facilities, urging patients to visit the hospital.

He advised residents of Maridi County to observe the preventive measures against the novel coronavirus put in place by the national government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

South Sudan has so far recorded 1,942 cases of COVID-19, with 36 deaths and 224 recoveries.
