Maridi Girls principal says security needed for education

The principal of the Maridi Girls Boarding Secondary School for Science said insecurity is a challenge for education in the country.

Principal teacher Bullen Emmanuel Batavoro said the school also lacks enough teachers, staff accommodations, and laboratory facilities.

Bullen was speaking during a visit by Tommy Simmons, the head of AMREF Italy organization which helped build the school. AMREF Italy funded the school to help young girls in science to join Maridi Health Science Institute because the institute has few female students.

Bullen said if the situation in the country normalizes then the donors will see the fruit of the seed they have planted. Many students fled Maridi due to tension and violence in the county this year.

After meeting with school administrators and students to learn about what is happening in the school, Simmons said that one big challenge in South Sudan is security.
