The acting Paramount Chief of Maridi County of South Sudan’s Maridi State is calling on both the state government and rebel forces in the area to open the main roads linking the county with the state to boost trade and curb the rise in prices of basic commodities.
Chief Alizia Michael said the main road used for transportation of goods and services to and from the county have been blocked causing an increase in the prices of basic goods.
“Prices are now very high because the roads are blocked. The roads that connect us with other states are closed. We are stuck here yet we are farmers and the things we use are not available, they come from outside the state. Now we cannot access them. The seeds and even equipment,” Michael said.
