Most of the schools were closed down after clashes erupted between SPLA-Juba and local youths last month.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the Maridi Acting Commissioner John Ezekiah admitted that most of their schools in the county were interrupted by insecurity but they were reopened on Tuesday.

“Concerning the education, there was a small problem of education in the county based on insecurity issues which started some months ago but according to the reported from the county director for education that most of the schools were reopened and from now onward the doors are open to pupils to resume their studies and yesterday (Tuesday) most of them reopened,” he said.

John claimed the security currently is quite normal in his county and many people who had fled their areas are returning homes. Insecurity has been reported in neighboring Mundri West County over the last week, however.

He noted that is currently no public transports between his county and Mundri. Authorities from Mundri could not be reach to comment on the issue.

The acting commissioner also reported that on Tuesday there was a health team from the national government that visited to see the situation concerning the victims of the tanker explosion that killed about 200 people last month.

Finally, he reported that pests have caused some damage to agriculture in the area.
