The business community in South Sudan’s Maridi State on Tuesday donated 14, 000 South Sudanese Pounds for garbage collection in town.

The business community in South Sudan’s Maridi State on Tuesday donated 14, 000 South Sudanese Pounds for garbage collection in town.

The money was earmarked for Suk Wehda, a market in Maridi town.

Maridi town mayor, Kinako Gasper Abdelgadir, confirmed the donation and lauded the business community for their support. “As municipal officials, we are happy because we have received 14,000 from the traders at Suk Wehda,” he said.

He, however, said keeping Maridi town clean should be a collective responsibility of the entire population in the state.

The donation comes a day after business owners and municipal officials met to devise ways of managing garbage in the market.

Meanwhile, the chamber of commerce chairperson, Bennet Khamis has urged government to support the business sector in the state.

“We are calling on government to open banks such as commercial banks, agricultural banks and microfinance institutions so that the business people can grow in their work,” he said.
