Hundreds of Marialachak citizens who previously fled the village following an attack by the Arab Misseriya tribe have returned back, the Rumamer Commissioner said.

In March, the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) reported that three Dinka Ngok were killed in the attack on Marialachak while three were wounded, several children were abducted and 24 houses burned. The Abyei official said about 30 houses were burned and 17 goats were raided.

Commissioner Deng Jak Dau told Radio Tamazuj that over 300 Ngok Dinka families, mostly elderly people had returned to their area. He further said nearly 700 families from Marialachak village fled to Rumamer due to insecurity.

Dau added the returning families spent one month and a half in Rumamer town. The county official disclosed that children are still remaining in the town after they were enrolled in schools.

Internally displaced people of Marialachak who haven’t yet registered by the World Food Programme (WFP) are being given food from an emergency ration, according to the Abyei official.
