Authorities from Tonj, Gogrial and Wau states say they have begun the implementation of the resolutions of a peace conference arrived at two years ago.

In 2016, community and government leaders from the three neighboring states held a peace and reconciliation conference for the pastoralists and farmers in the region. However, the resolutions of the conference which came to be known as Marial Bai Agreement were not immediately implemented.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Tonj County Commissioner, Severino Philip Bazia said the authorities have begun the implementation of the resolutions, beginning with the most important one being the disarmament of civilians in all the states.

Philip called on the communities in the region to cooperate with the authorities in the implementation of the Marial Bai agreement.
