South Sudan’s cholera outbreak is spreading with confirmed or suspected cases in Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Eastern Equatoria, and Warrap states.

South Sudan’s cholera outbreak is spreading with confirmed or suspected cases in Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Eastern Equatoria, and Warrap states.

As of 5 July, a total of 705 cholera cases including 32 deaths have been reported in Bor and Juba counties, the UN’s Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said. In Juba County, out of 654 cases, 31 people have died, representing a case fatality rate of 4.7 per cent. Of the 31 deaths, six (19.4 per cent) were children under age 5.

South Sudan had a cholera outbreak last year which killed 167 people and infected more than 6000 over the course of seven months.
