Conflict-affected people are suffering in Manyo County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state as humanitarian conditions worsen for families who have run out of food, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Wadakona, County Commissioner Rajab Deng Ajak noted that citizens were experiencing severe shortages of food in the area.

He pointed out that about 300 sacks of sorghum were sent yesterday by the state governor Simon Kun Puoc, but the quantity of food donated was inadequate for the conflict-affected people. The official stressed that the citizens badly need food.

The county commissioner claimed that the security situation is stable. Manyo County is located on the west bank of the Nile from Renk town. The area has been contested by various armed groups including SPLA-IO, SPLA and Johnson Olony’s militia.
