A man and his wife are nursing injuries at Malualkon Hospital in Aweil East State after they fought off a hyena at their home in Maper-Tingdong County on Friday.
Riing Yak, the medical director of Malualkon Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that a man sustained injuries while trying to rescue his wife who was attacked by a stray hyena.
“The husband was in the market when the hyena came and attacked his home. So when he returned home, he found his wife wrestling with the hyena,” he explained.
He said the man and his wife are currently receiving treatment at the main health facility in Malualkon. “They are now responding to treatment at the state hospital here in Malualkon,” he said.
Mr Yak disclosed that the victims suffered bites on their hands and legs after trying to free themselves from the hyena. He revealed that the man managed to fight off and kill the aggressive animal that attacked his family.
The medical director said attacks like the one in Maper-Tingdong County are rare, pointing out that the incident is a reminder for people to use caution at night.
