A man strangled his two children to death before surrendering to police authorities in Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei state on Saturday, police said.

Majok Maketh Koor, a resident of Bor town, strangled his daughter and son before surrendering to prison officers at Tibek area.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Chol Achiek Deng, the deputy commissioner of police in Jonglei state said the man took the extreme step of killing his two children, aged between eight and ten, at Lekyak neighborhood on Saturday.

He noted that Majok was a prison officer in Jonglei.

“At 12:05 am, the prison officer Majok killed his two children and then handed himself over to prison officers at Tibek area,” Chol said.

The deputy commissioner of police said the motive behind the killing remains unclear. He pointed out that investigation into the incident is underway.
