The police in Renk County of South Sudan’s Upper Nile State have arrested a man accused of stabbing his wife to death last Friday in the Shamdi area, South East of Renk town.

The police in Renk County of South Sudan's Upper Nile State have arrested a man accused of stabbing his wife to death last Friday in the Shamdi area, South East of Renk town.

The Director of Police in Renk, Jumaa Kur, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the suspect, 37-year-old Hassan Dhahia Ahmed, stabbed his wife who recently delivered their baby three times leading to her death.

According to the police, the deceased identified as 30-year-old Aisha Muhammad Ismail had returned to her parents' home after quarrels with her husband.

"The husband followed his wife into her family home and stabbed her three times with a knife that led to her death on the spot," he said.

The woman left behind a thirteen-day-old baby.

Kur said although the suspect is in police custody, investigations into the incident have been launched.
