A 35-year-old man was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Wednesday night in Hai Sika-Hadid in Wau town, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
Maj. Gen. Samuel Ajoung, the Police commissioner in Western Bahr el-Ghazal state, told Radio Tamazuj that the deceased Bak Bak Bol was gunned down and that investigations are ongoing.
“Yesterday (Wednesday) at around 9:30 pm, unknown criminals shot dead somebody called Bak Bak Bol with a gun in Hai Masharus area of Sika-Hadid in Wau and escaped. The body was taken to Wau North police station and the investigation is ongoing,” Gen. Ajuong said.
He said there was an increase in crime because of alcohol abuse.
“These days there is high alcohol consumption and people are moving freely because the security is favourable but this kind of incident is different from others. Previously there has not been any problem but we are investigating this and you will be informed about what we have done,” he said.
The police boss in the area revealed that last week a Sudanese businessman from Darfur stabbed a small boy with a knife and that he was arrested.
Lina Fartinan who works for Women Training and Promotion (WATAP) said there is improved police response in dealing with crime but that there was still insecurity in the outskirts of the town.
“The security situation in Wau, in general, is not bad despite the miner cases happening. Sometimes these cases are minor related to personal issues like the one of the boy stabbed by the Darfurian. It is based on the background of domestic problems,” Fertinan said.
