Police in Juba have confirmed that a young man was shot and killed by unknown gunmen near Juba along the Kajo-Keji road on Monday.
The deceased, Evans Boyoi Wani, was traveling in the company of two of his brothers on two motorbikes from Kajo-Keji to Juba when they were ambushed by unknown gunmen in Kurki near Juba.
Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin Bulla, the South Sudan police spokesperson, said the security organs who were sent to the scene managed to find the dead body of Evans Boyoi Wani in Kurki on Tuesday. He said the two others are safe and in good health.
“The body was found yesterday (Tuesday). There is a camp for the army there and the two survivors managed to escape and they reported the case on Monday. Our people went there with the army and they got the body and even the boda-boda (motorbike) which was recovered because the bandits left it there since they couldn’t drive it,” Gen. Justin said.
For his part, the chairperson of the youth in Kajo-Keji County, Anyik Chaplain, called on the government to deploy security forces along the road to reduce recurrent road ambushes.
He said the body of the deceased was taken to Juba and there are plans to deliver the deceased’s body back home to Kajo-Keji for burial.
The youth leader pointed out that the death of his colleague came at the time when the people of Kajo-Keji were planning to return home and called on the government to take charge of security along the routes to and from the capital where people can access some services.
“We call upon the government to intervene because this road is our livelihood. We get food items from juba and we have little access to Uganda because of coronavirus issues and now young people are being killed in cold blood. The people of Kajo-Keji have suffered enough and we want to come back home,” Chaplain said.
