An 18-year-old man was killed in a road ambush carried out by armed men in Nyirol County of Jonglei State on Sunday, officials there said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, James Bol Makuey, the county commissioner, said the deceased, Gatmai Makuey Kuac, was heading to Langkien town from the Waat area when he was gunned down by the assailants on Sunday afternoon.
“He was ambushed and killed by criminals from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) and his gun was taken,” he said.
Commissioner Bol called on GPAA youth to abide by peace agreements signed with their Jonglei state counterparts to avoid a return to violence.
Brigadier-General Marial Gatluak, the county police inspector, said local youth followed the attackers and found that they were armed criminals from GPAA who escaped unharmed.
For his part, Lokali Amae, the GPAA chief administrator, said he is not aware of the incident.
