A man was killed and a 2-year-old boy abducted in an attack carried out by unknown gunmen on Akobo County in Jonglei State on Wednesday, local officials said.
Uror County Commissioner, Tang Chatim, told Radio Tamazuj that the deceased and the abductee identified as Malou Nyamdor Malou in the company of four other people who escaped unhurt were destined for Ethiopia from Uror when they met their fate in the western outskirts of Akobo Wednesday morning.
“The man was shot dead on the spot while the boy he was carrying was taken. The mother of the boy plus three other women she was moving with escaped to bushes unhurt and now they are in the Walgak area,” Chatim said.
The local official condemned the attack, saying it has created panic among the locals and that it is threatening the homecoming of the refugees who fled the war in 2014.
For his part, Lt. Col. Peter Gatbel Machar, the county police inspector, said no arrest was made in connection with the incident because the attack occurred in the bush.
Late last month, two children were abducted and a woman injured in an ambush carried out by armed bandits in the same area in the outskirts of Akobo County.
