At least one person was killed, one injured, and another one went missing during a road ambush in Duk County of Jonglei State on Sunday, local officials said.
John Chatim, the Duk County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred when armed assailants waylaid a group of men on the outskirts of Poktap town.
“They were some men coming from Pajut to Poktap town. On reaching a place called Pabiorol, they were ambushed. One was killed on the spot, another one sustained gunshot wounds on both legs while another man is missing till now,” Chatim said.
The commissioner accused armed youth suspected to have come from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of involvement in the attack.
Major Majak Daniel Tuor, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said they had launched investigations into the incident.
For his part, John Abulla, the deputy GPAA chief administrator, said he has yet to be informed about the incident.
“We have not received any official information on the incident from our counterparts in Jonglei State. Nanaam, our area bordering Jonglei does not have a communication network so we can not contact our youth there,” he said.
