A 20-year-old man, Obang Amino Omot, was shot dead while his 12-year-old brother only identified as Ochwengo, with whom he was traveling, was abducted in a road attack by armed assailants in an area along the South Sudan-Ethiopian border on Saturday.
Pochalla South County Commissioner Othow Okoti Abich told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday evening that the incident has left the community devastated and in fear of imminent attacks as such occurrences are becoming commonplace.
“This incident occurred in an area called Po-Ataaki between Boyi and Adongol of Pochalla South County. There were three boys in number and they are all students in Ethiopia and were on vacation,” he explained. “They were attacked while on their way to Boyi Obang was shot dead, his young brother was abducted his brother, while another boy escaped unhurt and reached the Boyi area.”
The county commissioner condemned the attack, which he blamed on armed Murle youth, and urged the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) authorities to intervene and check the escalating attacks.
“This killing and abduction preceded an incident in which a 3-month-old baby was kidnapped while strapped on her mother’s back. The woman was heading to a funeral at the home of her son in the same area. So, we condemn these incidents and demand for investigations,” he said.
Radio Tamazuj reached out to GPAA Information Minister Oleyo Akwer Nyalus for comment but he was not available.
