Man killed along Chukudum-Torit road

Local authorities in Budi County of Eastern Equatoria State have said a man was shot and killed over the weekend along Chukudum-Torit road near Camp 15.

Local authorities in Budi County of Eastern Equatoria State have said a man was shot and killed over the weekend along Chukudum-Torit road near Camp 15.

Peter Bosco Lotyang, a member of parliament in the Eastern Equatoria State legislative assembly representing Budi County, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the unknown gunmen laid an ambush and killed the unidentified man.

“Two days ago some gunmen shot at some people coming from the village and they killed a man but a woman and her child are alive. This incident happened along the road to camp 15. These people, a man, woman, and child, just descended from the mountain towards the junction and were headed to camp 15 town but they fell into an ambush. The woman and child are fine,” Lotyang said.

The lawmaker advised the population to stop misusing guns but instead seek legal ways of resolving disputes.

“What we want to tell our people is that the gun should not be used to shoot people on the road. If the gun is still in the hands of civilians, they should use it correctly but not to shoot people even if the person fought you. Fight using your hands or just open a case against the person you have a problem with because people need to live in peace,” he advised.

Alfred Odong, the executive director of Budi County confirmed the killing but said the situation is calm on the ground.

In August, one person was killed by unknown gunmen near the Catholic Church in Chuckudum, while two cattle thieves were killed in Kikilai Payam of Budi C in October.
