A 35-year-old man who raped an eight-year-old girl has been jailed for 14 years by a court in Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei State.
John Yel Aleu, the presiding judge in Bor town, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the court convicted and sentenced Ajak Akuei, 35, for the rape of a minor girl that took place in November.
“The court ruling on Thursday is based on the South Sudanese Penal Code 2008 section 247. The convict has also been fined 5 cows as compensation to the family of the victim,” Aleu said.
Aleu, who also serves as president of the Jonglei High Court, said the convict started serving his jail term since last week. He revealed that the convict has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
