A body of 21-year -old man was found floating in Kineti River in Torit town of Eastern Equatoria State on Wednesday, police said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Col. James Joseph, the Director of Civil Defense in the defunct Torit State said medical reports indicated that the deceased had epilepsy.
The officer identified the deceased as Hakim Fredrick Sebit.
“The reason why he fell into the river was because he had epilepsy. This type of disease does not need water, fire and other dangerous places,” said James.
He further said police would follow up on the matter with the prosecutor to determine whether the deceased died when he was alone or not.
James also appealed to citizens to always protect such vulnerable groups of people from unnecessary movements to save their lives.
The state police spokesperson, Major Justine Kleopus Takuru confirmed the incident, urging citizens to protect vulnerable groups.
