Man commits suicide in Pochalla North County

A 27-year-old man hanged himself in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area’s (GPAA) Pochalla North County, authorities said.

County Commissioner Gilo Ochan Gilo told Radio Tamazuj that the deceased, Opiew Anyaro Okwagol, was found hanging from a tree outside his house on Friday.

He said the deceased left no suicide note but that he could have acted under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“The boy took his own life on Thursday. He was believed to have been under the influence of Bangi (marijuana) and alcohol,” he said. “As a county, during the dry season, we will embark on a campaign to stop brewing of alcohol and consumption of other illicit substances because our youth are indulged in drug abuse.”

For his part, Col. Amati Ochan, the police chief in Pochalla, also attributed the incident to drug abuse.

“The boy committed suicide on Thursday night and was found dead hanging from a tree near his house the following morning in Nyium village of Burator Payam,” he said.
