Man arrested over killing of a friend in Rubkona

A 65-year-old man has been arrested for the suspected killing of his friend in Rubkona County in Unity State on Saturday.

The deceased, 28, was working with a company subcontracted by the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC).

Unity State police Spokesperson John Malieth confirmed the arrest to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday.

Malieth explained that the killing resulted from a confusion during a cattle raid.

The killer, he said, fired several shots to fend off the raiders, one of which caught his friend.

“The incident took place at the Unity oilfields where some cattle were being resettled by local authorities due to the floods in southern Rubkona County,” he said.

He added that following the shooting, the victim was taken to Juba for treatment, where he died.

Malieth said the matter was being investigated.
