A 35-year-old man identified as James Achaha Dalmasio has been arrested for shooting and killing his sister, Ohiri Dalmesio, 32 because she delayed preparing a meal last weekend in Imehejek in Eastern Equatoria State.
The incident happened after Achaha asked his sister for food and was told to be patient as the meal was not yet ready. He then reacted angrily and picked up a gun and shot the sister dead. This prompted the area administrator to order the local youth to search for the suspect who was at large. He was apprehended and handed to the police.
This is the second time such killing over food following an incident where a man shot his sister in Obira in Ikotos County a few months ago.
Oromo Mathew, the chief administrator of the Imehejek Administrative Area, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the suspect is currently in police custody awaiting trial. He said Achaha claimed to be stressed because of being unmarried.
“James Achaha, 35, seems to have stress or frustrations and took his sister living with them at home as a problem. The whole problem started because of food and this seems to have triggered him to pick someone’s gun and he shot his sister,” he explained. “I ordered the youth to arrest him and recover the gun he used for shooting the sister. He was arrested and was brought to the headquarters after which I brought him to the main prison here in Torit.”
An eyewitness to the killing, Odura Aron, said the incident happened at around 7 p.m. after the suspect invited them for supper.
“The youth were burning community bricks and maybe he drank alcohol there. After returning home, he found his sister cooking in the evening and asked for food but the sister replied that it was not yet ready,” he narrated. “He replied that the sister was the reason he did not have a wife and it would be her last day because he was going to kill her. He took the gun and the lady tried to escape but he followed her to a neighbor’s home and shot and killed her there. This deceased left behind two children.”
