The police in Mapel town, Jur River County of Western Bahr el Ghazal state have arrested 44-year-old Udigo Luis on allegations that he killed his wife on Tuesday night.
According to Major Asunta Achan, the police deputy inspector in Mapel, the suspect Luis murdered his 35-year-old wife Akuol Non Mapal at 11 pm at the Kapara checkpoint along Wau-Tonj road, 12 miles east of Mapel town.
“The problem happened yesterday in Kapara and we sent people at 2 am. The problem was between and woman and a man, they fought at night and the man killed the wife,” said Achan. “We sent police at night at the scene and we have recorded the incident details, we got the deceased and we brought the suspect with us at 3 am.”
Major Achan said they have deployed police and other forces on the ground to contain the situation at the burial site.
“I have forces there because there is a problem but forces are on the ground at the checkpoint to control the situation,” she added.
Meanwhile, Alur Paramount Chief Kon Akot Ngor confirmed the incident and said the suspect was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the heinous crime.
“People said the killer was under alcohol intoxication, he will be transferred to Wau today (Wednesday),” he said.
Chief Akot urged relatives of the deceased to remain calm as the police handle the matter.
