A man was arrested for setting homes on fire in Malualkon and Wanyjok areas in South Sudan’s Aweil East State last week, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the state information minister, Garang Malong Yor confirmed the suspect’s arrest. The government official said the suspect confessed to have committed arson, saying the arrested man was a member of an organized criminal group in the state.
“The information we have is that the criminals burnt four houses in Malualkon. Another house also came under fire in Wanyjok,” Garang said.
He pointed out that the suspect would be arraigned on arson charges.
Anei Akol, a man whose house got burned in Wanyjok town, confirmed the arrest of one suspect by the police after the incident.
