Authorities in Torit county of Eastern Equatoria State have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly killing his stepfather.
The incident took place in Himodonge payam last Monday.
Himodonge Payam Chief Elia Oboi Akilo told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the suspect was involved in a family fight when the incident occurred.
He identified the suspect as Omotte Mayeriko and the deceased as Sabio Alam Peter, 46.
Oboi said the suspect is currently in police custody awaiting trial. “I handed over the person to the government and it is now beyond my powers. The man must suffer for his crime,” he said.
The chief urged citizens to refrain from such acts and live in peace.
Major Justin Kleopus Takuru, the state police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying the perpetrator would face the law.
“We received a case from Himodonge, the suspect is in custody. Relatives of the deceased came, opened a case of murder and procedures have started. We will investigate the suspect and witnesses will also testify so that court procedures take effect,” he explained.
