Man and wife killed in attack on Duk County

A man and his wife were killed and four children abducted in an attack by unknown gunmen Thursday in Duk County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, a local official said.

County Commissioner Michael Wuor Malual told Radio Tamazuj that gunmen attacked Panyanbil village in Duk Padiet payam on Thursday.

“They actually kidnapped five children, but one child managed to return back home, until now he doesn’t speak with people,” Wuor said.

He said the attackers burned 20 cows and 20 sheep inside a luak as well as several houses before killing the man and woman.

"Until now no one knows the attackers because it happened at midnight and following morning the youths and security agencies tried to pursue but failed to find who were the attackers," the commissioner said.

Wuor said that communal problems between Duk county and their neighbors may continue whether there is a peace agreement or not.
