Rebel fighters loyal to former army chief Paul Malong Awan reported fighting with government troops in Wanh-achien area of Lol State this morning.
Sunday de John, spokesman for Malong's SSUF/A rebel movement, told Radio Tamazuj today that fighting is continuing in Wanh-achien. “Fighting with government forces in the area is continuing,” Sunday said.
“We have losses but we don’t have details right now. I can also confirm that we had withdrawn our troops from War-Ayen area,” he added.
The army spokesman, Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, said he had “no information” that there is fighting between government troops and rebel fighters loyal to General Paul Malong in Lol State.
President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Riek Machar and a handful of other opposition groups signed a peace deal in September 2018. But several armed groups, including those led by former military chief Paul Malong and General Thomas Cirillo are not part of the peace deal.
