Malnutrition is increasing among children in Wau, the capital of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state, according to the nutrition office at ministry of health in Wau.

Khamisa Ayoub, nutrition officer at the state ministry of health, said on Monday that nutrition centers in Wau town are receiving 40 to 60 cases weekly, compared to six cases before the outbreak of violence in Wau.

“We are now receiving 40 to 60 new cases of malnutrition among children under five,” Ayoub said.

She added that malnutrition is also increasing among mothers.

Ayoub pointed that there some health centres in Wau County have stopped working due to the violence in the area, which forced the five centers in Wau to receive a huge number of cases.

She said most of the cases are amid displaced children from the areas affected by the violence within Wau town.
